Lisbon & the Lisbon Coast are both an all-year-round destination. Summers, whilst warm are rarely oppressive and the cooling sea breeze keeps it comfortable even during the hottest months. Very mild winters mean you can enjoy your short break in the winter sun in Cascais and Lisbon.
The town of Sintra is well worth a visit. Its a world heritage site and has a lot to enjoy both for adults and children, including the Moorish Castle, Pena Palace, National Palace and the mysterious Quinta da Regaleira. It also offers great shopping and restaurants. Markets in Sintra are on the 1st and 3rd weekends of each month. Take a horse and carriage ride around the villa in true turn of the century style if you want to see it all! Its Sintra's answer to the sightseeing bus.
Coast / Beach
Beaches in the Bay of Cascais are about 10-12 mins walk from the property; other beaches on the Cascais / Estoril coast are within easy walking distance 15 to 20 minutes along the promenade. A few mins drive away is the magnificent, spectacular Guincho coastline, with sandy beaches and rocky coves. The alternative popular surfer beach of Carcavelos just 15 minutes drive away is very accessible also by train. You can have surf lessons here on this beach as well as on Guincho.
There are a great many fine sandy beaches on the Lisbon Coast. You have the choice of 3 beaches in the centre of Cascais. Fisherman's beach, Praia da Rainha, or the longer stretch at Praia d Conceição and many more as you travel in the direction of Lisbon. They are all very easy to access by train which runs along the water's edge for most of the way between Lisbon and Cascais.
These have superb beach restaurants dotted all along the way serving fresh fish, sardines, various seafood and the famous Portuguese steak roll (Prego no pão). Otherwise, visit (by bus or cycle there on the purpose built bicycle path) the Guincho Beach on spectacular un-spoilt coastline. It offers perfect conditions for surfing and there are beach bars on most of them offering refreshments.
Take a day trip to one of the Sintra beaches such as Praia Grande, Praia Maças and Praia da Adraga. Adraga Beach restaurant serves fish and seafood which tastes like they caught it just before serving it. Or try the "restaurant with a view" Azenhas do Mar. Beautiful views and beautiful food.

“A real gem of an apartment, especially because of the terrace and the night on the deserted pool area. The apartment also benefits from a good shower, which whilst over the bath was powerful and a must if you've long hair. It was our first time to Cascais and we loved it. It's a pretty resort, with a huge number of restaurants for all budgets. It is also very clean and felt safe. I finish by saying that our host Cassie was very friendly, approachable and helpful.” (Airbnb)
“Very beautiful place to stay. The view is absolutely amazing. The house was clean and it's in a very secure building. The neigbourhood is the centre of Cascais, it's a ten/ fifteen minute walk in a quit street. Supermarket is a 5 minute walk. Very nice bakery in the neighbourhood, it's a fifteen minute walk. We had an awesome, beautiful stay. The swimming pool is also very nice and a quit place to stay.” (Airbnb)
“I stayed here with my husband for 9 nights in early August and it was lovely. The apartment itself is beautiful - quiet, comfortable and modern. It's exactly as it looks in the photos! The balcony was definitely a highlight, it's sunny until the evening and has gorgeous views of the coast. The pool area was so nice and we spent a lot of time sunbathing down there. It was always really quiet with no more than a handful of people there at any time. The other residents are really friendly and there were lots of sun beds and umbrellas to go around. The apartment is located an easy and pleasant 10min walk into Cascais with loads of really nice restaurants on the way. The beach is a similar distance too. There's a supermarket 5mins away with everything you need. Thanks for a lovely stay, we would definitely come back!” (Airbnb)
We have just spent 6 days at Sea View apartment, Cascais which we thoroughly enjoyed. The apartment is light and airy with a beautiful terrace with sea views. There is very comfortable seating on the terrace allowing a lovely relaxation area. The apartment is tastefully furnished with good facilities. The location is very good for the marina and Cascais centre, all within easy walking distance. The security at the apartment was very good with friendly and helpful staff. We used the pool most days, which was a nice addition.
